Marketing In A Virtual World

Before the Internet, small business owners were usually limited to a local market. They resorted to expensive advertising, direct mail, and expensive brochures. They cold-called. They networked at the local Chamber of Commerce or Rotary. They hoped customers found them through word-of-mouth or a Yellow Pages ad.

Today, you can work with a consultant, a financial planner, or a business coach across the country as easily as someone across town. And there's a good chance that prospects find you (instead of the other way around) through an Internet search engine.

In only a few short years, an entire technology, vocabulary, culture, and marketplace have been born. Cyber entrepreneurs, customers and a whole new economy have evolved at blinding speed.

It's no wonder so many business owners are at a loss about what to do and how to do it, when "it" relates to the Internet and their business.

This is the age of the virtual customer. While the Internet has made it perfectly reasonable to land a major client you've never met face-to-face, it has also created new expectations among consumers.

Prospects now "Google around" and expect to find you easily. They expect you to make a virtual case for yourself. If you don't pass the test, make a bad impression, or appear lackluster in relation to your competitors, you lose potential business you never knew about.

Get Slightly Famous--Online

A Twelve-Part Teleseminar Learning Series that Will Push Your Business to the Next Level

Steven Van YoderI'm Steven Van Yoder, author of Get Slightly Famous: Become a Celebrity in Your Field and Attract More Business with Less Effort. Over the last decade, I've helped hundreds of business owners like you become recognized leaders in their industries.

Increasingly, entrepreneurs are learning that they must embrace online strategies as part of their overall marketing strategy. This is not an option, but a central component of business success as business moves increasingly into the virtual world.

These are some of the common questions I hear from clients in today's growing "virtual" marketplace:

How can I attract business from all over the world, let alone manage a relationship when there are no lunches, no meetings, and no face-to-face contact?

How do I choose the best online marketing strategies, especially since there's so much information out there and I'm not technically oriented?

How can I create an online reputation that attracts clients and makes selling them on my abilities almost effortless?

How do I make my web site a vital, working part of my business marketing strategy?

Understanding the way business has shifted in the Internet age can help you bring the potential of marketing your business into the virtual world. No business today should operate in today's economy without an up-to-date, integrated Internet marketing strategy.

From April 19 through May 25, 2005, Get Slightly Famous--Online will bring you the most effective online marketing strategies available for today's business owner. Your Participation in this Program Will Support Tsunami Economic Recovery in Indonesia

As a long-time journalist, I've traveled and seen the human costs of poverty and economic hardships brought on by a rapidly changing global economy. I believe that advancing entrepreneurship, especially among people in the developing world, is the best way to help people in need to help themselves.

On January 1st , 2005, I founded Global Initiative to Advance Entrepreneurship (GIVE), a nonprofit foundation that addresses the growing problem of poverty in the developing world. GIVE works to reduce global poverty by using a unique multi-faceted approach to advance entrepreneurship.

Although we've been planning pilot projects in Indonesia since 2003, GIVE's mission has new urgency due to the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami that ravaged South Asia on December 26, 2004.

Indonesia was the country hardest hit by the tsunami, with over 200,000 dead and hundreds of thousands left homeless . But the tragedy is far from over. Entire villages were swept from the earth, and the people who survived were left with no food, shelter, or clean water. Relief organizations from around the globe are helping with their immediate needs, but the long-term view is bleak. These survivors have lost their entire means of livelihood.

The environmental devastation caused by the tsunami has wiped out the rice fields and much of the fishing industry, in a country where most people live on rice and fish.

It may take years for the land and sea to recover. The small businesses and cottage industries that used to supply jobs for people outside of farming and fishing are all gone. Their shops, inventory, and equipment are destroyed, and they have no source of funds to rebuild.

Helping People Help Themselves.GIVE operates on the principle that global poverty is best eliminated when people are masters of their own economic destinies. Through entrepreneurship education, support and resources, GIVE helps people from low-income communities build skills, unlock their entrepreneurial potential, and enjoy a vision for their future.

GIVE is focusing on long-term economic development to help Indonesia recover from the disaster. We are working with smaller, local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to develop and deliver long-term economic recovery programs the benefit those in the hardest hit communities who have lost their means to earn a living.

Throughout the disaster, smaller, local nonprofits were able to ramp up faster and get immediate aid to the people who desperately need it. In many cases these groups were available to help within hours; they could not wait for larger organizations based overseas to mobilize their relief operations.

It's going to take a lot more than emergency aid for this country to survive. What the people of Indonesia need now is to regain a way to support themselves. Instead of gathering in refugee camps and lining up for handouts, they want to return home and go back to work.

Get Slightly Famous -Online is the beginning of a new approach to global philanthropy. Your participation in this program will play a part in helping rebuild Indonesia.
